DJ_Biohazard Geschrieben 10. September 2005 Geschrieben 10. September 2005 Ich habe die Ehre ein Interview mit C.Y.T hier reinzustellen was ein gewisser DJ Cuad geführt hat !!! Viel Spaß C.Y.T. INTERVIEW www.djcuad.com 1) First of all, what's your name and where do you live?My real name is Domink Cydlik and I live in Linz which is a city in the north of Austria. My artist name C.Y.T. is a kind of nickname.2) Could you make a brief summary of your musical career from the beginning until now?Since 2000 I am a fix part of the ARC-Records team ( www.arcrecords.at ). Apart from my function as ARC Creative & Foreign Affairs Director and A&R of the internal label I am mainly responsible for programming, arranging, composing, writing lyrics and vocal/remix coaching.Meanwhile nearly all ARC projects (e.g. Deep.Spirit, DJ The Bass, La Dance Inc., Cera, El-Tone, Nina S., Kathy McLean, Deejayz United, Fantasy Project, Bass Up!, No Risk etc.) are produced by my studio partner and ARC Label Director Roland Binder and me. Dependent on artist/project there are also some additional producers involved.Trained in the subjects Music and English and at the instruments guitar, piano, recorder as well as solo singing at the moment besides working for ARC-Records I am also teaching music in a music school, where I engage in promoting young talents with numerous projects and where I have built up an own recording-studio too. Furthermore together with Roland Binder am also course leader at media-academy.2003 I brought the solo project C.Y.T. to life, with which I dedicate particularly to my preference for Italodance. With my Remix of "MAGIC BOX - If you" and release on "Super Italia Vol. 9 (Universal)" the break-through in Austria was done. Time/Spy Records (Italy) became attentive and engaged me short hand as "Independent Time Records Remixer" for Austria. With my second Remix of "ERIKA - I don't know" I was able to break through on international level. Apart from the Remix Vinyl Single in Italy (Time Rec./Spy) and numerous compilation releases (e.g. in Austria, Italy, USA, Hungary, Brazil etc.) the track hit many international charts and reached radio powerplay. Top DJs such as Gigi D'Agostino, Gabry Ponte, DJ Ross, Central Seven and Marco Ravelli (Discoradio) took the Remix on their playlists.Short time later I remixed "LOVEBOX - Please don't go" which was released as exclusive track on the compilation "Super Italia Best Of (Universal)". After inspiration of my Italian partner & friend DJ Ross (sang a version of "Lupin " himself) I also gave my debut as singer. 2004 beside Mix I delivered the vocals for the track "LA DANCE INC. - (I got u) In my mind" (Vinyl Single) and the Gigi Fans United hymn "GFU feat. C.Y.T. - Vuoi ballare"(e.g."Club Revolution Austria" & "Super Italia Vol. 14" and international radio rotation and dj playlists). Thereupon I remixed "DJ THE WAVE - Feel it in my heart (C.Y.T. Revival Mix)" (numerous national & international releases). With my Remix of "DJ LHASA - No controles" (releases: Single Italy (FMA), DJ Lhasa Album, numerous international compilations) I was happy to reach further top placements. With the C.Y.T. Piano Mix of "FANTASY PROJECT – Fall in love", which was released in some countries (e.g. Single Austria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland; compilations in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan etc..) I think I could prove again that successful Italodance does not have to come from Italy JIn between I remixed the project VAGANZZA-“As I fall asleep” for Airbase Germany (Rico Bass) which also found its way on several compilations. My latest release is a remix of LOVE TOUCH-“By your side” which was recently released on single in Italy (FMA).3) Why did you decide to produce mainly ItaloDance and EuroDance music and not other styles?First of all I like both styles a lot. I grew up with listening songs of Culture Beat, Haddaway, Snap, Ice Mc and many others…the catchy melodies and their commercial style influenced me a lot…never wanted to do something I don’t like…Anyway sometimes it’s funny to do some experiments too: e.g. reggae songs or house. At school I also play rock with my pupils. Good to keep your head free for new ideas and to avoid burn out.Another thing which you have to keep in mind is that the producers have to survive somehow. So we do mainly commercial electronic music cause the production is cheaper and faster. Furtermore the chances to deal a pop/r&b/rap etc. song in our territory are very low. Austria imports all hits from countries like America or England, so there is less space for national products and radios/labels don’t care about it too. What a disaster…4) You have produced lots of remixes of Dance songs. Could you tell us what's your favourite?Hmmm…difficult to say…Everytime I remix a song am trying to give my best and to do a “real” remix with adding own ideas and personal style. I try to imagine what the listeners and disco audience could like. It’s primarily not me deciding what’s good or not, the people outside do. When they like my work am happy…To mention a specific remix too I would say “ERIKA-I don’t know” because it was my first remix which was released internationally.5) How is a normal day in your job? Do you spend a lot of time in the studio?Hehehe a day is long…normally I get up at 6.20 am, teach some hours at school. Then I check e-mails and do the management stuff (writing feedbacks, do licensing stuff, prepare press send outs, call partners etc.) maybe working a bit on a song. In the evening I spend a bit of time with my great girlfriend to relax. Then work is calling again, until 1.00 am. Then a bit of sleep and the same next day…we work very hard...6) What new CYT projects can we wait for the future? At the moment some new C.Y.T. co-operations are in work. Among them:WEM-J feat. FRANCY - La rondine (C.Y.T. 2005 Remix)DYNAMO feat. LEXANDHER - Elettricadanza (C.Y.T. Remix)THE USUAL SUSPECTS vs C.Y.T. - China girl (C.Y.T. Club Mix)RUSLANA – Wild dances (C.Y.T. vs Deejay Nick 2005 Remix)Furthermore my mix for the follow up of FANTASY PROJECT – “Don’t know why” will be ready soon. Besides some other ARC projects will also be released in the near future (e.g. Deep.Spirit & a new project called Bass Up in Germany)7) At the same time, you're the Creative Director of the Record Company "ARC-Records" home of artists like "C.Y.T.", "Deep.Spirit", "Fantasy Project" or "Nina S.". What's do you think about the results of the Company until now?I think we can be proud cause we are still alive heheWithout joking I think that our team did a great job until now. We were able to build up a network of label and co-operation partners in many countries (e.g. Austria, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Russia, Japan, Slovenia, Canada etc.). Furthermore ARC is promoting young talents and has an own remixer team growing every day which consists of national & international producers & remixers (e.g. Austria, Germany , Poland, Brasil, Canada, Belgium, France). We are known as open-minded, fair, fast and friendly partner. That’s our firm philosophy, think it’s a good one. All in all we are happy about what we reached until now, the direction is right, the way long…a lot of things can or have to be done…we’ll try our best and will continue producing real dance music (Italodance, Eurodance)…thanx to all people supporting us on our way…8) What kind of music is now leading on Austrian charts? In the club charts House is becoming more and more popular. That’s a pity. Anyway at the moment am happy to see “C.O. –California” on top of the Austrian DJ TOP 4ty Charts. In the main single charts dance songs like Ilona or Axel F are TOP 10. A bit unusual situation because normally the main charts are dominated by R&B, Pop or Ballads.9) Dance music is not in it's best moment because of the House music that is everywhere. Do you think Italodance and Eurodance will be again on top in European charts as before? What do you think is the problem with that style? You are right, apart from the general crisis of the music industry, especially Italodance has big troubles. The single/vinyl market is nearly dead at the moment and labels/producers change to survive. I can understand that but the result is that there will be less dance songs and bad quality. Many producers will stop to do Italodance songs.I don’t think that dancemusic will completely die because discos will always play faster dance music too but the popularity of the style has disappeared. It’s a neverending circle, a style needs support to be popular, DJs playing it in the discos/ on radios, people buying it, labels releasing it. When one part of this circle is missing there are programmed troubles…hope that the individualists which still believe in this kind of music will get the support they deserve…then I see a light at the end of the tunnel…10) Apart from producing, are you also DJ?No, am not. In fact it would be interesting to try but I really don’t have the time…11) Could you give an advice to all the young Dance producers?Continue doing it and don’t give up! Music industry is difficult we all know. Talk to people, try to co-operate, believe in yourself cause you can do it when you work hard for reaching your dreams. Never be satisfied 100%, there’s always something that could be done better…Feel free to contact me when you think your production or voice etc. should be heard. My e-mail: cyt@arcrecords.at 12) Can you give a salutation to all the people that read DjCuad.com?In times like now it’s very hard, especially for Italodance. Many artists, producers, labels already changed style, so most important: Please support this style by playing and buying it! Only that way we can be sure that Italodance will still be present in some years. Let’s keep our loved style alive! All the best to all of you from the whole ARC-Records Austria team and a special thank you to DJ Cuad for asking me for that interview. You’re always welcome…Thanks a lot.
