The Facts

Sam Houser stated that GTA San Andreas was to mark the end of the GTA3 trilogy, which suggests that the next release will be called GTA4.

The domains GrandTheftAuto4.com and GTA4.com were registered by Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is being developed for the Playstation 3, a 'next generation' system. Sam Houser was quoted praising the new Playstation 3 on May 17th, when the console was unveiled:

"Each time SCEI launches a console, the video games business moves to the next level. With PlayStation 3 it looks as if it might be time for interactive entertainment to become, finally, the world's dominant artistic medium."

Rumours & Speculation

Multiplayer - There were signs of multiplayer development in the GTA3 data files, and GTA San Andreas featured 'co-op'. Multiplayer is a strong possiblity in Grand Theft Auto 4.

Setting - Due for next-gen systems, sources close to the project suggest the team is looking beyond the US for the setting of the next title, with Europe being a strong contender.

Interviews

The January issue of Game Informer magazine contained a lengthy interview with the president of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser. Even though he is notoriously elusive in speaking to gaming publications, Game Informer managed to sit down with him and ask him about the GTA series, as well as the gaming industry. Here is a sample of the interview:

Question: Is this the last new Grand Theft Auto game we'll see on this generation of hardware? It seems like you've probably pushed the PS2 hardware about as far as you can.

Answer: "Terry [Donovan, CEO of Rockstar] will batter me if I answer that question! [Laughs] It is the last full-blown thing we're going to see for now. But someone might come up with a wacky idea that's fun and relevant tomorrow. I'm one of those "never say never" kind of people. It was really important for us to do this trilogy. A fictional New York in a contemporary setting, Miami in the '80s, and a '90s Cali - that was the trilogy. That was the plan from a long time ago. I'm not the biggest fan of games coming out with new versions year after year. Putting out the same game every year, plus ten percent, that's not our thing."

When asked about an online GTA game, Houser mentioned Everquest as a possible source of inspiration. Additionally, "just giving people deathmatch, or even a cooperative deathmatch - that's not GTA." Houser spoke on Rockstar's choice of systems, saying he is "supporting all the next generation systems," and that "what we built the company on when we moved from PSone to PlayStation 2 was a desire to make games that you couldn't play on the existing platforms. That's very important."

Danke für die Infos! das erste Bild sieht ja sehr gut aus, wird bestimmt ein richtig gutes Spiel. Oktober 2006 is ja noch ne ganze Ecke hin, da können wir ja ordentlich News sammeln *g*

ich freu mich erstmal auf Saints Row (Thread kommt noch) für die Xbox360, was im gleichen Stil ist wie GTA, megahammer aussieht (in bewegten Bildern auf der Gamepro DVD, wow sage ich nur) und schon Ende des Jahres erscheint.

Das Bild ist defenitiv ein Fake! Wurde auch von etlichen Seiten bestätigt, es existieren noch keine Screens... hauptsache es gibt mal zeitgleich ne PC Version sonst hab ich nix von... und nicht erst über nen Jahr später

das die Facts nicht stimmen. Wäre von Rockstar auch komisch wenn es in London

spielt weil Sony ja an einen Gateway für die PS3 Arbeitet und 2 Games in London muss ja nicht sein Also R* bitte nicht in London

"So lautet Rockstar's Antwort auf die vielen Gerüchte um das nächste GTA die in der letzten Zeit aufgetaucht sind. Rockstar "bestätigte" nun, dass die Gerüchte um eine mögliche Enthüllung des Spiels auf der diesjährigen E3 und einem Release für die PS3 in diesem Jahr definitiv nicht stimmen. Ausserdem soll das Spiel auch nicht in Europa spielen. Zu den anderen Gerüchten äußerte man sich nicht."

Grand Theft Auto 4

Nicht in diesem Jahr

Publisher Take 2 hat bei der aktuellen Bekanntgabe der Finanzzahlen des ersten Quartals 2006 offiziell bekanntgegeben, dass vor Ende des Jahres, genauer gesagt November, kein neuer Ableger der Grand Theft Auto-Reihe auf den Markt kommen soll. Lediglich für die Playstation Portable soll ein Spiel veröffentlicht werden.

Ebenfalls nicht vor November 2006 soll hierzulande die Playstation 3 erscheinen. Über die Spekulation, ob Grand Theft Auto 4 exklusiv für Sony´s neue Konsole erscheinen soll, konnte die Chefetage von Take 2 keine genaue Aussage geben. Sollte sich Sony die Exklusivrechte an dem Spiel nicht rechtzeitig sichern, wie es bei den vorherigen Teilen der Fall war, könnte Teil 4 der beliebten Serie wohl zunächst exklusiv für den PC erscheinen.

R* soll sich ruhig zeit lassen umso länger umso besser wird das Spiel Ja und das es erst für PC erscheinen soll kann ich mir gar nicht vorstellen aber mal schauen

Neues GTA erst 2007

Die Jungs vom offiziellen Playstation Magazin in den USA haben vor kurzem ein Interview mit Take2 geführt. Laut Take2 will man sich mit einem neuen GTA solange Zeit lassen, bis es genügend Leute gibt, die eine Playstation 3 besitzen. Vor 2007 wird dies sicher nicht der Fall sein. Die Redaktion des Magazins vermutet daher, dass man noch bis Ende 2007 warten muss.

Gaht man nach diesen Aussagen, kann man davon ausgehen, dass das nächste GTA wieder exklusiv für die Playstation erscheinen wird.

So, nun wird es definitiv kein Starttitel der PS 3 werden, aber ich finde es gut dass sie sich Zeit lassen, dann wird das Game noch besser.

Vorerst exklusiv für Xbox 360!!!

Außerdem: Rockstar und Microsoft haben einen exklusiven Deal um episodenhaften Content auf den Marketplace zu bringen GTA 4 wird so auch mit frischen Content über Xbox Live versorgt werden

GTA4 kommt nun doch für die PlayStation 3 - offizielle Bekanntgabe von Roackstar Games auf iher Website. Peter Moore sprach davor als zuerst für die XBox 360.
